I work with entrepreneurs and business leaders in order to shape and develop their digital business. My approach is holistic and hands-on. I combine strategic and analytical thinking with a high priority on communications and sustainable results. I draw from 7 years of consulting experience, building startups from scratch and CEOing one.
I can add value in the following areas:
- Building responsive, innovative organizations
- Analysis and development of digital business models (services, products, b2b, b2c)
- Developing and implementing a strategic approach to digital marketing
In order to achieve results I use concepts from agile, design thinking, lean startup and custom-made methodology. That said, the method is a means to an end, not the end itself for me.
My engagements can be of various sizes. I do lectures, workshops, offer sporadic coaching, fixed-size consulting packages and lead complex projects. Just drop me a line and let's discuss if and how I can help you best.
Lust but not least: I have a highly experienced and capable network of people who complement my skill-set: Developers, lawyers, analysts, coaches, UX designers - you name it. So, we can certainly figure out a way for your complex challenges as well.
I have worked with insurance companies, banks, telco providers, energy suppliers, media companies, internet platforms, pharma industry, internet and advertising agencies, car manufacturers, eCommerce companies and the lodging industry.
In my projects I built digital units, developed go-to-market strategies, introduced new organizational approaches, developed digital products and services, guided marketing organizations into the digital age, coached founders and developed holistic digital strategies.
My clients know their business better than I do. My value derives from my knowledge about technology and the digital sphere as well as my ENTP type personality. Thus, I don't tell you what to do but develop bespoke solutions in conjunction. To get there, I work closely with your organization and team.
Testing trumps theory. While some groundwork is often necessary, I prefer to setup projects in way we can quickly start testing our hypothesis in the real world and iterate from there.
I enable my clients, not make them depend on me. Of course, I value long-lasting relationships with my clients. But I prefer to transfer as much knowledge as possible so we can grow a healthy, mutually beneficial relationship.
For more on my views on consulting also see the Consulting Manifesto for the 21. Century I co-authored.
I formally started working in the digital space in 2007 after finishing my studies. Back then, I was the first employee of a consulting firm focused on digital transformation (long before the term existed). We subsequently grew it to 15 people. In the meantime, I was lucky to work with several great clients on interesting and challenging projects covering a variety of topics from marketing to re-orgs, from HR to business model development and from service design to platform development. I CEO'd our consulting boutique for 1.5 years.
But I experienced business and entrepreneurship well before that. Due to my upbringing in a family of entrepreneurs I basically grew up inside of companies. I actually give a lot of credit to my mum, who taught me a lot about business. She was a real management innovator in the lodging industry. Back when she was in her early thirties she gave provocative talks in front of the industry’s top managers, providing them with food for thought and new impetus.
I'm well versed in digital technology. I taught myself to code at 13 (Basic, C++, Visual Baisc and the likes). I started my first website - a inline skating magazine - when I was 14. I studied and analyzed the web ever since. When I studied PR & marketing at the University of Bedfordshire Business school, I focused on online strategy. For my thesis I looked at political online campaigning based on the 2008 Obama campaign.
Today, my primary field of interest is the intersection between technology, system design and people-centered business. In a continuous effort to identify new trends and applicable solutions I closely follow current developments in technology, business, system theory and org-design. I give talks and write about those issues, I work with clients as a consultant or interim manager (but only if a project fascinates me) and I coach founders. Also, I'm in the process of writing a book on decentralized systems.
